Ethylene glycol

Ethylene glycol is a colorless, practically odorless, low volatility,low-viscosity, hygroscopic liquid. It is completely miscible with water and many organic liquids. Ethylene glycol can act as an intermediate in a widerange of reactions, especially significant is the resin formation ofpolyethylene terephtalate (PET). The reactivity and solubility of ethyleneglycol also provide the basis for many applications. The widespread use ofethylene glycol as antifreeze is based on its ability to lower the freezingpoint when mixed with water.
